Meet the 2027 Ford Fathom EV: Features, Technology, Pricing, and More
Ford didn’t simply remove the engine from a familiar truck and replace it with a battery. It started over.
The result is the upcoming Ford Fathom™ EV, an all-new midsize electric lifestyle truck engineered around space, useful technology and attainable pricing. It’s the first vehicle built on Ford’s Universal Electric Vehicle Platform, and it could reset expectations for what an affordable electric truck should offer.
For drivers around Pooler and Savannah, the Fathom promises something especially intriguing: everyday dimensions, flexible truck capability and next-generation technology without an oversized footprint or luxury-EV price tag.

The Price Is the Plot Twist
Electric pickups have traditionally arrived with impressive capabilities but intimidating window stickers. The Fathom takes a different route.
Ford has announced a starting MSRP of $28,350 for the base vehicle with a standard-range battery.
That pricing could put the Fathom within reach of shoppers who have been interested in an EV but unwilling to stretch into premium-truck territory.
Affordability is not a stripped-down afterthought. It’s central to the entire Fathom project.
A Truck That Refuses to Waste Space
The Fathom will be midsize on the outside, but Ford’s clean-sheet electric architecture allows the interior to use space differently.
Ford projects that the cabin will provide more passenger volume than the Toyota RAV4. They’ve described the truck’s exterior footprint as comparable to the Ford Maverick. Add a cargo bed and a front trunk, and the Fathom begins to blur the traditional line between pickup and SUV.
That could be ideal for life around Pooler. Passengers can stay comfortable during the weekday drive into Savannah, while luggage, beach equipment, tools or home-project supplies travel outside the cabin. Smaller valuables could stay protected in the frunk instead of sliding around an open bed.
The Fathom’s smartest trick may be giving drivers more usable space without simply making the truck larger.
Power That Can Leave the Battery, Too
The Fathom will offer bidirectional power capability, meaning its battery is being designed to do more than receive electricity and propel the truck.
Compatible equipment may allow stored energy to power tools, campsite equipment or other supported devices. Ford has not yet announced final output ratings, required accessories or whether home-backup functionality will be offered, so those details remain to be confirmed.
Still, the idea is compelling: a vehicle that can transport your equipment and potentially help power it when you arrive.
Apple Maps Is Moving Into the Dashboard
The Fathom’s large touchscreen will feature integrated navigation powered by Apple Maps. This is more than mirroring a navigation app from your phone.
Ford says the system will provide natural-language directions, real-time traffic and incident information, intelligent EV routing and battery preconditioning. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility will also be standard, giving drivers the freedom to use the connected experience they prefer.
Next-Generation BlueCruise Capability
Every Ford Fathom is expected to be BlueCruise-capable.
Ford’s hands-free highway driver-assistance technology can help control steering, braking, acceleration and lane positioning on designated hands-free Blue Zones. The next-generation version planned for Ford’s Universal EV Platform is being developed to create a smoother highway experience from entrance ramp to exit.
For drivers frequently traveling I-95 or I-16, that could make longer drives feel more relaxed. BlueCruise is not autonomous driving, however. The driver must remain attentive and ready to resume control, and an active plan or trial will be required.
Built Differently From the Floor Up
The Fathom will be the first model assembled through Ford’s new Universal EV Production System at Louisville Assembly Plant.
Instead of building the entire vehicle along one conventional line, Ford’s new process separately assembles the front, rear and structural battery sections before joining them together. The battery also serves as part of the vehicle’s floor, helping reduce complexity and create more interior room.
This manufacturing story may sound distant from the driver’s seat, but it supports the Fathom’s central promise: reduce unnecessary complexity so customers can receive more vehicle for the money.
What Is the Ford Fathom EV’s Range?
Ford has not yet released projected EPA-estimated range figures for the Fathom. Charging speeds, charging times and final battery specifications also remain under wraps.
Until Ford publishes those numbers, any unofficial range estimate should be treated as speculation.
When Can You Preorder the Ford Fathom EV?
Ford Fathom preorders are expected to begin in early 2027. Interested shoppers can sign up for official updates now, with additional specifications and configuration details expected closer to launch.
